I’m Em (they/them), a queer and neurodiverse author from the Netherlands who can’t stick to one type of books so I write under multiple pen names (in English). All my stories feature characters who aren’t perfect and might even be a bit broken, but that’s totally okay! Because they are still loved and accepted for who they are, just as they are (no 'cure' needed).
When I’m not writing, I play videogames, read, craft (I have way too many hobbies) or hang out on the couch (under a fluffy blanket of course) with my partner and cats to watch anime.
My pen names are:
- E. Engberts (YA, non-romance scifi with queer and neurodiverse characters, explicitly stated rep)
- Emmy Engberts (YA, contemporary romance with queer and neurodiverse characters, explicitly stated rep)
- Emily Engberts (Adult, 2-3/5 spice, sapphic contemporary romance with neurodiverse characters in their 30s, not explicitly stated neurodiversity)
- Layla Heart (New Adult and Adult, 4-5/5 spice, queer reverse harem/why choose/poly paranormal and Omegaverse romance with some neurodiverse characters, explicitly stated and not explicitly stated neurodiversity)
- Skylar Heart (New Adult and Adult, 4/5 spice, MF and queer reverse harem/why choose/poly contemporary romance, not explicitly stated neurodiversity)
- Rosa Swann (Adult, 3-5/5 spice, MM and MMM paranormal and Omegaverse romance, explicitly stated and not explicitly stated neurodiverse characters)
As a neurodiverse author, parts of that tend to slip into many of my characters. I started purposefully writing neurodiverse characters in my YA books and since then I've written a couple of characters with explicit rep in my Adult/New Adult series too. Though, most of the characters in my Adult/New Adult stories are pretty clearly on the spectrum (both older and newer stories), even if it's not explicitly stated.
Novellas and box sets!
Almost all stories published under Layla Heart, Skylar Heart and Rosa Swann were originally written and published as novella serials (novella length 'episodes' that have to be read in order to follow the whole story), then collected into half-serial collections and finally published as a full-serial collection.
This is why you'll see a combination of individual works and collections on my page.
